Yesterday I was given a tiny red Ruskin book with the most beautiful inscription: To ‘inscribe’ means literally to cut into a surface. It’s perfect. The page with the word “love” on it, when flipped over, has the word “heart” printed on the same spot. They bleed through each other when held to the light.
