Our Juliet balcony is good for serenades and embraces and watching the world go by. I love that I can hear Sean whistling Mozart’s Magic Flute when he walks home from the store with ice cream. It already feels like home.

Our Quirky 300 Year-Old French Home Renovation Adventure / July 30, day 9: Roadtrip to Southern France to pick up our furniture and hand over the keys to the house we’ve been looking after this past year
A hectic couple of days to end all hectic couples-of-days! After picking up a moving van from Hertz in Poitiers, we headed to Emmaus (a huge shop like Salvation Army) in La Blanc, to get this Maisons du Monde chaise longue- like new – for just €40! I always wanted a “fainting” couch – a…
Our Quirky 300 Year-Old French Home Renovation Adventure / July 27, 2020, Day 6: Sean finds a hidden door in the tower & we’re moved by kindness
In which Sean unearths a hidden door in our medieval tower that no living soul has ever seen and I, erm, clean some windows and rafters. Not to be outdone, here is a video of my arm scraping centuries of soot and paint from a beam. And here I’m concentrating assiduously on cleaning the windows…

Our Quirky 300 Year-Old French Home Renovation Adventure / July 26, 2020:
Be duly impressed ! Our balcony rails match the art nouveau (?) wallpaper we found hiding behind plaster in a dark moldy closet under the stairs (which is soon to be our en suite bathroom). My toes match the green tones too. And the red flowers below the balcony echo the little red dots on…
Our Quirky 300 Year-Old French Home Renovation Adventure / July 26, 2020, day 5: Stairwell & floating fireplace part 1
Believe it or not there a floating fireplace in our stairwell! It’s a Thing of Beauty, dating back to the day when thess two townhouses were one grand house. The previous owners took the floor out to make space for the stairwell and left the fireplace hovering . I guess they didn’t have the heart…
