Our bedroom lock was made by “JCB,” an artisan & locksmith who lived in our home in the Victorian era!

Eventually we’ll take off the wooden rectangle and incorporate the lock into the door in a more aesthetically pleasing way. 🙄 Not only is the lock beautiful (I love the hidden circle that swivels up to reveal the key hole!) but it’s also very much at home here – the artisan who made it lived in our home in the Victorian era (!!) and our 3rd floor art studio is still filled with many of his tools. ⚒🔨🔧One of our neighbors invited us over for wine last month and told us everything he knew about the history of our house: Protestants fleeing persecution from the Catholics in the wine caves downstairs to the locksmith and his wife to the expats who kept dropping stones into his yard while repairing the roof recently (not us!) …such a rich history! 🙌 Caves, locks, stones…More on our blog!
